Melanie Bray was elected CPSU/CSA Branch/General Secretary in November 2024, serving as Assistant Secretary for the six years prior. Starting her public sector career in a WA Disability Services group home, Mel joined the union at her induction 28 year ago, and soon after became a Delegate. As a Delegate, Mel helped lead collective workplace action, securing wins such as a reclassification for social trainers.
Mel has a proud eighteen-year career at the CPSU/CSA, spanning both organising and leadership positions. Her achievements include securing pay rises of up to $30,000 for Residential Colleges and significant safety and salary improvements for Youth Custodial Officers.
As a proud PNG Australian and mum of two, Mel advocates for the development of leaders who can tackle the challenges we face from different perspectives, and is committed to developing a culture public sector workers feel connected to the work of their union.
